Newhaven Pier 2020
A much needed visit to the shore (yay).
Through the first lock-down, here in the UK, all I could think about was sea-swimming. I love sea swimming, a lot. As soon as we were allowed I bundled the kids in the car and we headed to my favorite beach on the Sussex coast. We were blessed with an amazing amount of sunshine and warmth in the summer of 2020 and so myself and all the children (we were all back together again) spent many days there. I always have at least one sketchbook with me wherever I go and many observational sketches were made there. I’m a fan of industrial landscapes and as Newhaven was the subject of my submission work of art it had to feature somewhere in my preparation works of art.
This is a beautiful small burst of colour and my first timed canvas taking me just over 2 hours to complete. It really helped to take the pressure off me knowing I could create a work of art I love well within the time allowed in the heat. Anything after this piece was more about keeping my hand in than timeframes so a really significant work of art in the process for me.
Acrylic paints, pencil & oil pastels on canvas, 2020.
