2022 will be a very special year for Brighton and Hove’s Artists Open Houses festival as it celebrates its 40th Anniversary.
Brighton and Hove Artist Open Houses, the originator of the Open House movement, dates back to 1981 when an artist from the Fiveways area of Brighton, Ned Hoskins opened his house to the public to view his work, and that of a group of friends. Other artists in the area followed suit to form the Fiveways Artist Group. In a city full of creatives, the idea proved popular and soon Artist Open Houses sprung up all over the city.
The Artist Open Houses festival is now the largest event of its kind in the UK. Around 200 houses and studio spaces across the city open their doors for the main festival in May and around 60 open during the Christmas festival. Over 2,000 artists and makers share their work and homes each year.
The 2022 May Festival will take place over four weekends in May.
May 7/8, May 14/15, May 21/22 and May 28/29
This year I’m planning two very special locations, firstly with Chalk Gallery Lewes. A group exhibition inspired by the iconic book ‘Brighton Rock’ by Graham Greene.
And another in Brighton for one the weekends of the festival, a solo pop up exhibition of my Brighton inspired works.
I’ll be announcing more here soon so please do check back.
Much love,
